Tam Steve Nguyen

Tam Steve Nguyen is the creator and author of Family Time (FCW), a family-centered program developed inside San Quentin to strengthen relationships between incarcerated parents and their children. Through structured workshops focused on communication, accountability, parenting, and rebuilding family connections, Family Time has served multiple cohorts of incarcerated parents and their families. Their broader goal is to expand Family Time beyond incarceration into reentry services, schools, and vulnerable communities.

Tam’s work extends well beyond Family Time. During nearly 24 years of incarceration, he has earned his college degree, completed The Last Mile’s full-stack development program and served as a teaching assistant, worked for five seasons as a producer with Ear Hustle, facilitated rehabilitative programming, mentored youth through diversion work, and currently serves as Vice Chair of The People in Blue.

Tam has ongoing litigation under California’s Racial Justice Act.
